Im in the process of painting my 61 Falcon and after I laid the 2nd coat of base on it, places like the fenders are really smooth and places like the truck lid have a texture to it, when i rub my hand across it. What causes this and what do I do? Thanks
It may have been spots when your gun sputtered if you tilted just right w/o using an OMEX bag set-up. Or it maybe a lil water from the compressor spitting out ya gun.
Can you see the texture difference really well or can you only feel it?
If you can't really see it bad you can probably get rid of it with the clearcoat.
It all looks smooth, and I can only feel it. Im using a HVLP gun with a water seperator, and Dupont paint, its white btw. The guy that sold it to me told me that when I sprayed it on, it would dry kind of dull and the Clear would be what makes it shine, and also with this paint, there was no need to sand in between base and clear. I still have a few coats to put on, I just dont want to mess anything up considering what this stuff cost

You'd be surprised how water can get trough even with very expensive filtering systems.
Yes 98% of the basecoats in the world dry dull and don't need to be wetsanded. Do not wetsand a metallic basecoat! Also I don't know how long you are waiting to clear or basecoat again but many if not done with in 24 hours need to be wetsanded or scuffed after 24 hours. Check you tech sheet cause I'm not mad familiar with Dupont.
I think your basecoat if your only feeling changes in the baseocat levelness, it would have gone away with just putting 2-3 coats of clearcoat on it. Remember hit the hard to get places where there is a lot of overspray first, then clear the whole car each time you do a coat do it this way. Overspray on semi-dried/dried clearcoat= mad orange peel or even ruffness that needs to be sanded out and buffed.
Also I highly reccomend using DevilBliss OMEX bags on an HVLP gun can be made to fit any HVLP I use them on my Sata. Check em out cheap and the make painting a lot easier.
