It sounds like you may have sanded thru the anodized coating on the aluminum grille. If so, you can use mother's aluminum polish to buff the sanded area to a good shine, but you will always see the difference between your anodized coated grille and the part you sanded thru and buffed, they will have a different "shine". If you didnt cut thru the coating, good news, just use a trim/metal polish, polish heavy on your sanded area, then blend it out.
I Di Excactly What You Saidi Found That Many Off The Scrachtes Where Quite Deep So I Sanded Mostly The Whole Thing With 220 W/d Took It Down To This Guy At The Tire Shop He Said Good Job So Far Now Finish With 400 W/d And Hewill Polish It Right Back And Put Some Sort Of Clear And Look Like New
May want to check w/ local plater and find out how much to re-anodize the grill surrounds. Have 65 grill and quoted $350-$400 to redo. Took the labor intensive cheap route by using anodize remover. Then medium sandpaper to remove pits. Cont. with sanding until 1500/2000 grit. Used alum. polish, then clear coat. With the 65 grill found it very time consuming, may not be as involved if confind to surrounds, not clear how much alum is involved. The anadize remover cuts down on time. Clear coating the alum a must or it will tarnish, or reanadize. Suggest trying out on small piece of anodized alum, you may not be satified with results. Was satisfied w/ results on the 65, however, original anodized grill has a luster appearance and not a bright shine. I eliminated the polishing phase to maintain luster appearance.

Using anodize remover may result in more uniform appearance. Obviously, what ever works best for you. Have seen small spray bottles of stuff $4-$5 at Napa dealership. Good hardware store probably carries. Have seen small kits on e b a y.

thanks for the info i have one more to do and will do it with the anodizer remover i can get the grills preped for polishing but never have polished one any good ideas or products web sites i want to learn this because i cant drive truck ant more and need something to do
Have been using mother's, or simichrome polish. You may want to stay with the same method used in stripping the anodize off the first section. The anodize solution is caustic and not sure if there would be a noticable difference in appearence using 2 methods to remove the anodize. After sanding the 65 grill for 2 or 3 days, came across the anodize remover and thought died and gone to heaven. May want to complete the first piece to determine if satisfied, that way if don't like outcome you will have saved some time and labor. The plater is going to charge you the same price if you decide to reanodize.
Was able to bring out shine as progressed to 2000/2500 grit sandpaper. Polish seemed to bring it out further. Toned the shine down because wanted the original 65 luster appearance. Found it would tarnish w/in relatively short period of time, not sure if due to alum alloy on 65 grill. Used clear coat aerosol can to maintain appearance. Received E a s t w o o d catalog and they advertise product called zoopseal where they claim polished alum and chome will maintain shine min. 2 yrs. Far too expensive for me. It will not be same as if had grill reanodized, but it has been over a year since completing and still pleased with it.
hello i just got out of the hospital they had to give me 150mg of demorol so im a little bad shape right now if possible could you send me some before and after pics on how your grill turned ouy thanks JOHN
Sorry to hear not in best of health. John, do not have a digital camera. Took few pictures after just reassembling the truck, none include before or after shots of grill. Been shopping for digital, but have been in that stage for the past several months. Too many choices. If come up with pic will post. Best with your health.
