On the way to work today I was rolling down the freeway at about 70 mph and all of a sudden the 4wd and 4wd low lights on my dash board start to cycle on and off six times. This happens about every five minutes or so. It didn't seem to affect the way the truck was driving but when I got to work I parked the truck and shut the engine off and tried to put it in 4x4 high and the lights did the same thing again, just cycled on and off six times and I never heard the reassuring click I normally hear when the truck goes into 4x4.
The truck has the electronic 4x4 but manual hubs. I know that it was working this last Monday when I cycled it in and out of 4x4 high and 4x4 low. It is possible that the motor on the transfer case has gotten stuck?
My other question is this, will it hurt my truck if I drive it without getting the problem fixed right away.
