Ok this is my first time askin a question here so i dont realy now how to do it but here it goes.Iam tryin to build a mud truck not for racin just for alot of fun.I have a 79 F-150 with a 9 in lift on 39.5 boggers and a front and rear detroit locker.its got a 460 that i am tryin to add some power to.Right now i have a edelbrock performer intake holley truck avenger 670 carb and a lunati cam.anyone got anyother ideas that aint way up there in price.I also have L&L headers with 5.13 gears.also does anyone have a rough estimate on how much rear wheel HP i would be making.I have new springs for the heads cause of the cam and im goin to get a little work done on the exhaust side of them.by the way none of this is together yet its all sittin at home i am in iraq in the army so i have alot of work when i get back.thanks any input would be greatly appreciated kevin
I would look at a bit bigger carb... maybe on the order of a 750 Vac secondary holley also, is it a manual or auto? With those gears a stall would be nice and really wake it up a bit.
BTW, Thanks for doing what u are doing over there!!
I would agree with Breeze on the bigger carb- possibly a little better of an intake and some head work....

I also give my greatest appreciation for your efforts in preserving our freedom!
I also agree with the bigger carb, but would look at an 850dp if you really want a holley or atleast a 825, and a performer rpm intake would be a good intake I really don't like the performers they are just an aluminum reproduction of a stock iron intake in my opinion. what exactly is your cam specs that would make alot of difference in suggestions as to what else to do or if that is a good cam for what ou are trying to accomplish.
I also would suggest a good ignition, I really like msd stuff expecially there dist, it's easy to seal up to keep water out, and works really well.
thanks for the responses. My cam is on the adv. 253/265 at .050 204/216 at valve .456/.484 at lobe .285/.303 lobe sep is 112 107 int.it is also a auto c-6 with np205.if i do get a stall converter what kind would be best for my truck.im lookin for low end torque nothin more than 4000 rpm.once again thanks
With that cam, a mild stall of 2500 or so would work nice... be just enuff to let the motor spin up solid into its tq band on a hard takeoff. Also, with the auto trans, I would avoid using a double pumper unless you are tuning for all out racing.... the 770 or 870 Holley Street Avenger would work well tho....

The only thing I will say on this I would look at the truck avenger rather than the street avenger, the are set up alot better for offroad use.
Only reason I mentioned the Street Avenger over the truck is I prefer the style that it is built on, and I have yet to have a problem (not saying it couldnt happen tho) with the one I am running on my 429.... even boring up a rather steep rutted hill in 4lo has been no problem. Either carb (street or truck) is an excellent choice tho

thatnks for the advice the only reason i am goin with the truck avenger is cause i can get them alot cheaper once again thanks for the advice
If you look in your exhaust port there is a big lug in side there, take a grinder and remove it. Ford performance book says 10-15 HP for removing the lug.
