I first became aware of the problem after a few stalls towing a camper. I installed a clear fuel filter. On 20 or 30 mile trips the truck would seem to stall and you could pull over and it would idile fine and rev also. but put it in gear and go it would stall. I have a new fuel pump, electronic module, cap, rotor button, wires, plugs and I have also replaced all of the rubber fuel lines on the truck. It has a locking fuel cap from advance auto on it. It was the only one that would fit after three ones. Is the fuel pump bad ? How can I boil fuel from the fuel pump up to the carb? Any help anyone please.?
I have spaced the radiator back off of the air conditioner condensor about 3/8 inch and on my trip home this afternoon I will see what happens. The wife drove the truck yesterday and said that she would not be stranded with it. I love the truck and will not trade for a newer one.
I just made a run in the truck with the rad spaced and the fuel cap off. I also installed a fuel pressure gage. Cold I had 7psi and a full filter of fuel when I returned and the truck warm I had 3.5psi and an empty fuel filter. Every 20 seconds or so the filter would fill up about halfway, then the fuel would be used up. I think it may the 12.99 fuel pump the guys at Advance sold me last year. ???
It sounds like you have either a fuel perculation or perhaps a fuel strainer problem. I would check for any fuel lines running close to the exhaust first that could be getting hot. The fuel pickup in the tank might have a strainer on it that is corroded or ??? causing poor pump performance. You could also get Advance to replace the pump, it might have a bad check valve causing problems.
