87 Ranger Transmission Problem
I have an 87 Ranger 2.3L w/automatic transmission (A4LD) and I am losing trans.fluid. The problem is not that it is leaking it but it seems to be pulling it back through a vacuum line into throttle body and burning it. My question is does the A4LD have a modulator valve since it is computer controlled. I can trace vacuum hose to the transmission but cat. convertor is blocking my vision and I dont want to remove it if there is no modulator valve. Any thought and ideas are welcome.

Glad to say that my 87 2.9 doesnt have an automatic. But the connection for the vac hose from the modulator is at the top of the intake manifold/rear of engine should be similiar on yours. Look for an approx 1/2 inch hose at the back of the engine coming up the firewall from the trans. Pull it off & if you find trans fluid the modulator on the side of the trans is leaking.
