2004 Explorer thump

I have a 2004 Explorer XLT V8 with 2000 miles on it. Anytime the air conditioning compressor kicks in it makes a really loud thump that you can hear inside over the radio.

Does anyone else have this problem? Other than that it is a great ride.

Doesn't sound good. I'd be taking it back to the dealership and pulling out the warranty card.

My '04 XLT Sport with the V8 makes an occasional "chirp" when the compressor cycles, but no thump. Backin72 is right, time to hit the service department and get this on record.

We have an 04 V-8 and sometimes when first turning on the A/C is makes a "thump" when the clutch engages but is quiet after that even when the A/C clutch cycles. My 98 F-150 does the same thing from time to time. In your case if it makes the noise every time the clutch engages it's time to go to the dealer with the warranty card out. Good luck.
