Strange brew...C6 for PSD?

Here's a strange question for all of you PSD gurus:

I want to put a C6 behind my engine.

Before I work out all the details, let me tell you why I want to do this. It's almost time for a clutch and I don't want to spend that kind of money to still not like the manual. The older PSDs are bad with manuals because of how long it takes to make boost....I'd rather keep my boost up while accelerating. I NEVER tow anything (kinda tough to get a gooseneck that high and I don't like extreme-drop hitches) and all I do is drive up and down the interstate. I still have 4.10 gears so the 3 speed isn't an issue (I run the same RPM down the road in 4th now as I did in 5th stock). I know acceleration would suck in first, but I'm done with power adders in this thing at 80 HP so I'm not too worried about over-powering the trans. Don't worry about my transfer case because it's a divorced NP205 and there will be no fitment issues.

Now, for my questions:
Would I have to find an old C6 from a 6.9L or will a 385 series bellhousing fit with reamed-out bolt holes? Will the flexplate and torque convertor from the old 6.9 fit and is the balance weight (if externally balanced) the same?

If there are any more issues I'm missing here, please feel free to address them.

Thanks much,
Cody

Up until 1997 you could get a C6 with the Powerstroke, so the parts are out there to do this.

Really?
I thought that the E4OD was the only automatic available with the PSD. I may have to do some more research at the friendly stealership.

I wouldnt even try for a C6. It is a very old and outdated transmissioin, and its only a 3 speed it will absoultey stink for a PSD. no overdrive either. If you really want an auto I would go for a auto out of another HD truck of the time, if you can find it. Also, you said manauls are bad becasue you cant keep boost, and that is true, but I can tell you that the manual outpeforms the auto. You can feel the extra power with the manual. I would just keep the manaual. You may be disappointed with power loss. You do keep a little boost with a manual but not much. The old ZF's are a pain to shift if your not used to it, I have gotten used to it and im fine with it. Go with an aftermarket cluch, and dont forget to get a single mass (flywheel?) I think thats what its called.
