I have a 2004 f-250 cc 4x4 diesel with about 19,500 miles. My problem is when driving, I get this surging then loss of power. It is not major(very hard to describe) but what it feels like is you are taking your foot off of the fuel pedal and letting the rpm drop to idle for about three to five seconds.when i start to feel the truck slow I start to press down on the fuel pedal and it feels dead.(no respomse) so I push a little harder and then she starts to go. BY THE WAY..... all of this happens when my foot does not move. when this happens the tach moves around 200-400 rpm. Also when this happens, when you come to a stop sometimes the Idle will drop to around 400 rpm ad sound like it is going to stall. Sorry about the long post. ANY help would be great. THANKS .
Johnnyk. My 04 FX4 has done that also. Also when at a stop light mine will get quiet, then shudder, then surge and get loud. If you don'e have the binders on tight it could take out some tail lights. Fords says it is the EGR valve doing what it should do. I don't beleive it. I did see a post here where someone had this problem and it turned out to be a sensor in the turbo. Mine is going back today to be checked again. I'll post later when I get it back.
Do a search on this forum for surge or surging. Several others have had this complaint. It could be wire harness chafing or EBP or ICP sensors.
Who at "Ford" told you "it is the EGR valve doing what it should do."? That is total BS. I would talk to the service manager. Make sure you document everything. If you don't get satisfaction from the service manager, go to the general manager.
Service advisors will tell you anything. They are service sales people, not techs. I have a problem with hearing interference on the radio on AM when you turn on the lights. Service advisor blew it off with "I have never heard that before....". It turns out there is a Ford service bulletin on it.
It was the service manager. It is back in today. I'll see what they come up with this time. I will probably get the same answer. I have to go to Tennessee next week. If it is still doing it, I'll take it in up there. I hope they git it fixed...
I got'er back and they performed:KOEO check, KOEO injector electrical self-test,KOER test, Low idle stability (ICP pressure) test, crankcase pressure, exhaust system restriction ,boost pressure, fuel contamination, intake restriction, fuel pump pressure-electric, EGR position, and injection pressure regulator test. And after all that, EGR valve #3 was installed. Maybe a bad for bad swap was done the first time. I drove it home. Raner at 80 on the 6 mile stint of interstate and so far so good. Monday is a 500 mile drive to work. That will be the test.
