tie rods
Took the beast in for an alignment, they said the tie rods need replace. Should I look at aftermarket ones? For greasable fittings, greater durability, etc, and what brands?

Personally inspect those tie rods ends yourself before replacing. I'm tired of seeing front end parlors (oh, shops) telling people to replace parts that in actuality are within acceptable/normal wear limits.
Moog/TRW are good parts. Some Ford dealers are trying to compete with popular parts houses like Napa and Schucks. Call them and see if they will match/beat a competitor on parts.

Moog. Should be carried by most decent parts houses. BTW, Ford has been using crappy tie rod ends for several years now. My '88 F150 also had crappy non-greasable tie rod ends. I pulled a trailer regularly and sometimes the truck would go into a 'death shimmy' at about 40-45mph. I'd have to bring the truck to a complete stop in order to get the front end settled down, then I could drive off again. This was at 33K miles. I swapped out all three tie rod ends with MOOG and they never gave me a lick of trouble for the life of the truck. Traded it in with 200K on the ticker.
