Smile Compatibility a big issue

What models work together?

Howd'y I have a 72 F100 and personally think that it is the most beatuiful and sleek looking of the F100 range

I am fixing it up and after uncovering the chasis have found out that it is severly bent at the front end.

I have looked and looked but because everyone must love them can't find anywhere a 72 F100 for sale in trading post (melbourne Australia that is)

I was wondering does anyone know what year chasis's would be compatible and be able to have the tub and cab of my truck put onto them

Also do Ambulance F100's have the same chasis as normal F100 and would it be compatible with my tub and cab. Becasue there are lots of them around.

Also i last thing, me being a new, uneducated member to the Ford Truck world can't tell if my truck is a short or long wheel base if someone could tell me how to find this out it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance (just for reading this long message)

i am not sure if the 65-66 frames are exactly the same, but i think they are. but for sure 67-72 ford pickup frames are the same. if the ambulance is on a van chassis, no it is not the same.

measure the length of your bed front to back, if it is less than 8 ft, and only has 2 stake pockets per side, it is a short bed. if it is longer than 8 ft, and has 3 stake pockets per side, it is a long bed.

I was told by someone that 73 to 79 F100's are compatidible is this true?

Also sorry i don't know much how do you tell if it is a van chasis for the ambulance? Will it say it somewhere or is there a certain measurement.???

Thanks by the way this is really stopping me making a big mistake and buying the wrong model.

73 - 79 frames are wider than 67-72 frames - just measure across them.

Sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing - you should check this thread out - https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...84#post2019484

This poster seems to know, and says I am wrong when it comes to the later model F250, and F350. My problem is that I gave up on new trucks when the polution and safety requirments were mandated - I have never owned a truck newer than 1975, so all my knowledge comes from older trucks.

I have owned a few newer cars and SUVs - and hated them.

However, I bet any frame that you are driving could be strightened by a good truck frame shop a whole lot easier and cheaper than doing a frame swap.

***** B thanks for that
i checked out the thread but just to clarify

the change was at 73 for all F100 to 38" at the rear

Also I priced a chasis rejig at $800 aussie bucks
And while i'm doing up this car and need other parts eg. Power steering and 9" diff

I think that buying a truck with all that and a good chasis from around $2000 to $3000 will be better in the long run

Also correct me if i'm wrong but do 73 to 77 have the same cab shape and so do 67 to 72??

I'm wondering this cause i can't find any pic's of 67-70 model F100's I tried google but had no luck do you no where i could find a pic?? Is there a gallery for pic's on this web site.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. look at the belt line - on the 67 to 72 fords it sticks out, on the 73 to 79 ones it goes in.

The Gallery link is on the top right of this page, and most (not me yet) have a link to their gallery that pops up when you left click on their name.
