location of water seperator

Just bought my first diesel. It is a 2000 f-250. I need help in locating the water seperator so I will be able to drain it when the light comes on. thanks

open the hood, there is a plastic cover in the middle of the engine that says "powerstroke" on it. it is behind that cover and under it a little there is a fined cover on it(under that fined cover is your fuel filter) towards the bottom of that canister on the passenger side is the water release valve

On my 99, it's a yellow lever. Put a large container under the engine. Sometimes the hose drains on the frame or steering parts and fuel goes everywhere.

On the 2000 its yellow as well, probably coated in gunk tho. The lever pushes towards the cab to open .

Here's a tip: Open the lever for 1/2 second. After closing it, do down under the truck and look up to find the now dripping/ wet metal tube that leads from the water drain and drops directly on the frame of your truck. Go to the parts store and get some 1/4 inch fuel line and a hose clamp. Push the fuel line onto the metal line and route the fuel line away from the hot exhaust manifold and down to a handy location below the frame. Cut the fuel line at the appropriate length and install the clamp. Now when you drain the filter bowl it's a simple matter of placing a container under the end of the hose and opening the valve.

Now you know the location, but don't wait till the light comes on before you drain it. I was told to drain it at least every other oil change, but I do mine at every oil change to be on the safe side. Never know when your going to get some bad fuel.

I use a piece of pnuematic tubing that slips over the end of the metal tube easiliy and I drain at every oil change. Get tubing long enough to securely reach well into a glass mayonaise jar. It will fill 2/3 full. I store the deisel fuel for cleaner on small projects. Also really works well as bug and tar remover on the kick panels.

I use a piece of of small hose that I slip over the end of the drain tube so it doesn't run all over the frame when i open the valve. Let it run about 20 seconds.
