Talking trailer brakes

i just bought a 91' big tex trailer, 18 '' flat bed, two axels, it pretty rough, but will do the trick, i pulled the rear tires off and found out that this thing has electric brakes, now its hooked up to my brake box in the truck, but there not working.... drums are clean, no gruves or anything, the pads are good still...how do i go about servicing these things?

First thing to do is make sure you're getting power to the magnets.

Have someone press the brakes while you test the wires at the truck's recepticle with a volt meter. Then do the same where the wires connect to the brakes on the trailer.

If you get nothing, try running 12v right to the magnet and see if it clicks. If it does, the problem is in the wiring somewhere.

If not, it could be bad magnets and you can replace just those parts. Check RV or trailer places for replacements. You can sometimes find the parts on ebay as well.

Hope this helps.

If it will help you out any, you can go to www.pirate4X4.com/tech/billavista/towing and find colored drawings and wiring diagrams for your trailer connectors and the electric brake system.

I hope that will prove helpful to you if you need it!
