I have a trailer with electric brakes and need to hook them up to a seven pin plug. The brakes have a red and black wire coming from them where do they go in the 7 way?

with the seven pin plug apart and the locator notch at the top,the power side of the brakes goes to the screw to the left of the locator notch, the ground goes to the right of the locator notch. the question i have is about the red and black wires. this is not common. standard trailer wiring is blue to the brakes(signal wire) and white is the ground. do not hook it up backwards or you could burn the wires. i would suggest taking the drum off and looking at the internal wiring and finding out which wire(red or black) is ground and which is the signal wire. then proceed from there. i would take a guess that the black is the ground but it is not worth finding out the hard way. good luck.
I agree with McHarward--I have never seen a brake signal wire in any color other than blue. Of course, just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist as you have described in your post. You might wish to go to www.pirate4X4.com/tech/billavista/towing and check out their colored drawings and diagrams and schematics. They were to have updated their site last week so there may be newer and more pertinent information there to help you out.
What year is your truck and your trailer, please? Is your 7-pole connector six BLADE terminals encircling a round center pin? Or, is it 7 small circular pins?
Good luck!
