Is this a T-85?
Could someone let me know which tranny this is. If it is a T-85, then I would nee the info for putting it in my 71' Crew with it's rebuilt 390.
This trans came out of a 52' Mercury, behind a flathead.
I have found a couple of sites for rebuilding a T-85. I just can't seem to find many with pics. to compare this one to.
Also, gear ratio out of the O/D would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Robert P.
1st is non-synchro, right? Is it strong enough?
I know it's more money, but I'd go with a wide ratio toploader 4 gear and if I had the extra, I'd put a Gear Vendors OD behind it and run some 3.73 or 4.11 gears depending on tires.
I'm sorry, I meant to say "I know it's a LOT more money...."

On the 4 speed site, you can find some info that will help you see if your tranny will match up to a bell meant for a top loader. Trans to bell bolt pattern and length of input shaft are important, as well as how the pilot bushing is going to work. 390s came with toploaders in the good old days. He lists bells, but I couldn't find input shaft length.
How you gonna shift this beast?
Also of interest if the 3 gear doesn't pan out:

I don't much like these, but you need all options and the guys who have them like them:

I know this is all over the map, and does not answer your direct question. Perhaps you can find it with some of the info.

On edit:
That link doesn't look like it will work. Just google for "Ranger Overdrive" and you'll find the "high impact" and other sites.
On 2nd edit: Above hope page is:
