Vaccum Loss

I need some quick advice. I took my PSD 4x4 into dealership today for the four wheel not engaging. You turn the selector switch and nothing happens except for the air blowing out the face vents switches and goes to the defrost. Dealer says that locking hubs seals and orings are bad on both sides and causing the vaccum leak. It will cost 480.00 to fix. I dont want to pay that much. Is it hard to fix myself. Is there any directions or instructions that may get me started. I need a quick answer before in the morning.

Ok I do not have intimate knowledge of the front hubs on those Hoover units, but I would give a real hard look at the LINES going to them from the vacuum reservoir or where ever they may lead. I can't believe that BOTH hubs have failed at the same time. It's just too improbable.

Are you sure the lines from the vacuum solenoid on the right fender to the hubs do not have any breaks? If not, you could pull a vacuum on each hub separately to determine if they are both leaking. I had one of these hubs apart some time ago. You can reseal them yourself fairly easy (not too complicated). Just watch how it comes apart and reassemble in reverse order. Be sure to lubricate everything with grease real good and it should be fine. I have been thiking about relubing mine as a part of my routine maintenance.
