Hello!

Hello fellow For truck owners. Glad to be a new member. I just recently purchased a 2000 F250 Supercab 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel and am thoroughly enjoying it!! I do have one question though - I was told that the automatic transmission will sometimes shift hard from first to second by our local transmission mechanic, is this normal operation for the truck?

Most people actually complain the shifts are too mushy, and I tend to agree. However, if I have the clamp mod turned on, the 1-2 shift will sometimes hit so hard I think the driveshaft is going to twist into two.

JHayes60, welcome to FTE. This is a great place to find information on Ford trucks. The PSD Superduties are great trucks. You'll enjoy it.

Hi Pikachu! What is the clamp mod? Is that an aftermarket option?

jhayes60, Welcome to FTE and the Ford Powerstroke! The addiction should start soon (mods ). Most people say these trucks are mushy. If yours is shifting that firmly and it all checks out fine, enjoy it, most of us have to pay to get firm shifts. I put in the FTVB and love it.

Wow. lots of abbreviations. Not sure where to start. These diesels are very mod friendly (mods being modifications to the engine, computer, etc), they react well to exhaust upgrades, chip upgrades (adding a computer chip to your trucks computer), using a programmer to modify your trucks computer programming to increase horsepower, torque, etc. There are also air filter upgrades, shift kits to make the transmission shift better and perhaps last longer. And more and more. If you read through some of the posts in the diesel section, you should see all the things people do to these trucks. Its fun and addictive.

Welcome! I too am new to the forum. The abbreviations can get tricky, but just look back on past threads to figure out what most of them stand for. Also one mod that I think is very beneficial to the PSD(Power Stroke Diesel) is the power programmer(Hypertech). It will improve horsepower, gas mileage, torque, etc. You can pick one up on ebay for around $200.00. Might help with your hard shifting also because you can reprogram the transmition shift. Hope this helps.

Welcome! If you're thinking of mods(and you will) start with guages first. Pyrometer, Turbo boost and tranny temp are the most common. That way you see it, and back off before the damage is done!

Thank you that explains quite a bit. I think I better get used to truck itself first before I dive into the extras.
