I recently purchased a 2001 f150 flareside with 32,000 miles. The warranty isn't over yet and there is a very annoying squeek coming from the front end on the left side. I can't figure out what it is and "neither" can the dealer. While driving, it squeels down the road(not too loud) but when I hit a bump it gets louder for the time I'm on the bump, then quiets down to it's normal sound level. It seems like when the truck front end warms up, it gets louder. Does anyone know what my problem is? And is it covered under warranty? Thanks
-Dan
It has a bumper to bumper warranty so it should be covered. I wonder if it is a control are bushing or something like that. Make the dealer make it right before the warranty runs out.
I don't think it's a control bushing because I think it would clunk right? I sprayed WD-40 on the ball joint and it still didn't do anything. I hope it's something simple. It's just really annoying.
i have a 99 f250 sd, and i had a similiar problem. at first i found that i had a bad upper balljoint on the drivers side, so i changed both on that side. but the noise was still there, it was a squashy noise, almost like a shock. but on further inspection, it turned out to be my sway arm bushings..... the two main ones that hole it to the axle. i couldnt even move the arm by hand wihtout making a horrible loud noise. so i just put some grease inside there until the dealer got some in stock..... it was only about a 10 minute change for both ! u might try checking those !!!
sounds like the antisway bar bushings. a good dose of silicone spray will usually eliminate the noise. when the spray does not work-replace. the factory replacements come with silicone grease in the bores.
Recently traded in my 99 Explorer Limited AWD 5.0L for an 02 F150 Lariat FX4 Ext. Cab. 5.4L. When purhcased the Front Sway Bar Bushings squeaked, which the dealer lubed these up and cured it. Now about 2 1/2 months later, it is again starting to squeak. I had the same problem with the Front Sway Bar Bushings squeaking on my 99 Explorer.
My question is, what type of grease/lube should I use and where can it be purchased? As well, where exactly should the grease/lube be applied to the Sway Bar Bushings at?
I may look at installing some aftermarket Bushings so I don't have to worry about this annoying squeak in the future. So does anyone know of any good Bushings that won't squeak and where they can be purchased at?
rmeidlinger: Sorry for taking so long with replying. I do appreciate the help! I will get some Spray Silicone tonite. Hopefully this will cure the squeak until I can purchase some new bushings.
I will post back with results, which I believe will work. One thing I did notice, is the Sway Bar Bushings squeak a lot more when it's cold out then when warm out. Ideas on why? Just not enough lube so when the temp. drops the lube doesn't work as effectively?
Lastly, anybody know of any good aftermarket bushing? I know they need to keep lubed, but these stock bushings just seem to have this problem with squeaking.
