I believe that Arctic Circle Hamburgers might have been the first, in my area, to take "secret sauce" and make fry sauce out of it. I know they've had it for at least 20 years. We have a few AC's out here and the bigger franchizes might be trying to compete on an individual basis.
Fry Sauce: Take a couple dollups of mayo and plop in a bowl. Stir with a fork while adding Ketchup till it's about the color of cream of tomato soup, just a little lighter. Add a drop of mustard, a pinch of sugar and a little pickle juice and off you go.
Arctic Circle sells it by the quart jar now. Other fast feeders here in Missoula will have it in the little dipping cups but they charge .25 cents per. AC has a dispenser at the counter. It's also good on hambugers. So is French onion dip on a turkey sandwich.
Girl freind long time ago in a galaxy far far away made the stuff up herself for fries. Not bad stuff. Kinda grossed out at first.
Now I dont eat Mayo unless its in tarter sauce......so no more of that, tarter sauce on the fries.
I had it for the first time in UTAH on a trip last year. I guess the waitressess out there get a kick out of the non-locals and our reaction. I couldn't get enough of the stuff. I believe the McDonalds in Utah have a fry sauce dispenser.
Our first pair of foster children used to put MAYO on their corn on the cob. now that's alot of mayo.
"you can mix your peas and corn, but don't call is ****"
I grew up in Murray, Utah and love the stuff. There is a resturant in S.L.C. called The Training Table. They make theirs with BBQ sauce instead of ketchup. It's also very good too.
I like it with jalepeno juice instead of pickle juice.

Fry Sauce sounds great! I had never heard of it before, but I love to dip my fries in mayo. I always buy the "fat free" kind of mayo. I will have to try out some of the concoctions you all have suggested. Sounds similar to cocktail sauce, only not as tomato-y. I also dip my fries in tartar sauce (if it's the "right kind" of tartar sauce). No Miracle Whip for me. That Tangy Zip just yucks me out.
my parents make the fry sause all the time i cant stand it. only cause i dont like mayo or catsup, i dont like tomatos either but i do like hot salsa, or bbq sause on my fries
fries are good with mayo... they're not french but belgian where they speak french. over there you can get all kinds of sauces on your fries but mayo is the most popular. if you order a hamburger you get a meatball. a real hamburger on a bun is called a hamburger on a bun. people usually have just a fry so the portions are huge. comes in a big pointy sack with a giant glob of mayo on top and a little plastic/wooden fork. local custom is to eat just a little bit and throw the rest into the street for the pigeons
