Yesterday, I gave my buddy a ride over to the garage near Canyon Lake. He was having his old Suburban worked on. There is a guy there with a Chevy 2500. Complaining about the problems with the sixth serpentine belt getting screwed up by a failing A/C belt. He looks at my F250 6.0 PSD and says I got two of those too. Got problems with the tranny! I say, "Really?" He says, "I tow equipment around. Darn things keep shifting up and down all the time in the hills." I say, "Do you put the trans in tow/haul mode? If you do, the trans has a separate program for towing and uses the engine for braking." He gives me a deer in the headlights look and says "Tow what? I just hook em up and go!" Well there is one of the sources of alleged Torqushift problems.
I mean the way T/H works after running change 8 was done.
I just got back to Texas yesterday after an 8 month tour around the Western US. Put 19,000 miles on the truck and fought the toe/ haul all the way. I pull a 12000 pound 5th wheel and you have to fight the xmission to brake and down shift. The Torque converter clutch releases every time you release the gas pedal. Then you need to do breaking to get the drag clutch to engage, then more hard braking to get it to downshift.
At legal speeds in Calif. (55) the TCC will not engage in T/H. Need to turn off t/H till lock up, then turn it back on. Also will not lock up in any gear but 6th .
When it was new none of this stuff happened as above, it all worked.
I agree, jontx, the Ford software people really screwed up with some of those flashes. The sad part is, they won't do anything about it. I suppose you could DSB. I am not sure what can be done.
That's why I bought a 6spd. "I" control the gear I'm in!!! Last I looked, the transmission couldn't see what terrain I had under the tires, that traffic jam or hill ahead.
SBV45 some people see the ford SD, and dont realize that 2003 and later have the torque shift. He might have a superduty with a 7.3 and the E4OD/4R100 in it.
And when you run into a guy like SBV45 talks about, he probably tows stuff a lot heavier than the truck is rated for and then complains when it breaks down.
T/H mode was good in mine except it would sometimes squeal the tires when down shifting into 1st gear, they reprogramed it and now it only downshifts 2 times, lost low gears downshifting
