Does anyone know for sure what the original gear ratio was in a 1985 bronco II?

You need to look on the tag on the gear cover. Most were 3.45.

Look on the sticker on the drivers door under axle you should have one of the following:

42=3.45
44=3.73(most common)
47=4.10

If there is a "D" in place of the first number then you have a factory limited slip.

D4=3.73 limited slip
D7=4.10 limited slip
