Hello. Well, I am officially cornfuzzled....I had planned on getting the front-end leveling kit and larger tires to fill up the wheel wells. Now, i'm not so sure I want that look. I just see no point in lifting my truck any higher than it already is unless I REALLY lift it. So now i'm thinking of going the other way; lowering the rear to match the front. Don't get me wrong, I will never lower my truck...ever....but now I think the lowering shackles are better all around (price, looks, installation, no effect on drive, etc). And now that I have found some awsome looking performance tires, I think that might work.
Now the question. What do you al think? Will a Toyo Proxes S/T 275/60R17 tire work well on our trucks? It's got some awsome tread patterns for great all-terrain traction. I really want the 285/60R17 but the stats for that tire say you need a minimum 8in. rim width. So, I am asking for advice, both factual and opinions....I love driving on trails, but will never tyake this truck "off-road" like I did in my Bronco, and I drive about 50 miles per day on roads/freeways....thanks...
i am running 285/70R17 BFG AT's on the stock 7.5" wide rims. I have seen some on here and elsewhere running 315's and 325's on the stock rims. I really don't see a problem with running the 285/60R17 that you want unless it's the shorter sidewall (60 series), less flex, that is making TOYO spec out an 8" min rim width.
As far as the lift vs. lower dilema. I was in the same situation until I got my 285's. They made enough of a difference that I think I am happy with the look, for now. I know there are quite a few that have removed the block from under the rear springs to get the level stance. I think it was about a 2" drop.
That is unless you have a 2x4, then I don't think you have the block and will need the lowering shackles.
try doing a search and see what ya find. I think the only issue was that you need new u-bolts or a couple of washers or something like that.
