Ignition switch troubles

Hey all Blue Oval nuts. I have an 84 f150. Sometimes the ignition switch will stick in the start position instead of going into run. A few months ago someone else had a similar problem and a user sent some really cool pics to give a detail on the lower(inside the column) switch and how to fix the problem. Any help would be great. Also can a leaky gas tank "kill" the prime to the fuel pump? I'm getting a bad hesitation now and I have replaced the filter and fuel pump. I discovered the leak last night and I think its from the tank-It was dark and I had no light to pinpoint the leak. What is going on is this-with the truck being driven at street speed it starts cutting in and out like the pump is fouling( just like letting on and off the accelarator). I know a leak in the supply line can kill the prime but can a leak in the tank do it as well. Thanks again!

There are actually some good pics in the Haynes Manual.
I just replaced the switch on my 86. It should be the same.
Remove the trim piece from the dash directly below the steering column.
Remove two bolts securing the steering column to the dash. Lower the steering wheel.
The switch is located on top of the column towards the firewall.
There is a rod that runs along the top of the column from the Ignition lock down to the switch. Disconnect the harness from the switch. Also read the instructions that came with the switch. It will tell you how to position switch before tightening it in place. It does matter.
The switch I bought cost about $15 bucks. Took about an hour because I kept getting distracted. In all actuality it should take no more than 30 minutes.

Makes a huge difference. In cold weather, mine like to stick in the start position. The spring on the new switch is much stronger and returns to the run position everytime.
Temps in the morning here in Missouri have been dropping into the 30's and it still works great.
