I am just a newbie here and have done a lot of mechcanical work on my vehicles over the years but this will be my first rebuild.
Just asking for some advice from you more experienced folks about best way to rebuild my 1986 351w (carb). I use it for daily use and also occasional towing of travel trailer/boat. It is going into my full size Bronco Eddie Bauer package.
I was hoping to beef it up a bit and not really worried about any low budget but I would like to keep it as reasonable as possibe.
Any advice would be nice!
Towing you'll be wanting more torque. Stroke that sucker and either have your stock heads ported or get a set of low end afr's or edelbrock, get a custom or comp cam, feed it fuel and you should be happy.
2wd or 4wd? What gear(s) do you have? A towing/4X4 converter if automatic wouldn't hurt anything either. Would be a good time to rebuild the tranny as well.
Try Comp Cams XTREME 4x4 line of cams. They will give you grunt on the low end where it will be needed. Look for some aftermarket heads and some headers and an aftermarket intake like a Weiand Stealth. A nice carb choice would be a Holley Truck Avenger.
well most kits will run ya around 600 - 700 if your on a budget. the better kits are about $1000. machine work shouldnt be to spendy so you could have it built and ready to run for around 2k if done right and you do the install.
