Hey all, I was just going to do the simple task of getting the codes on my 93 bronco with 351w. I didn't have any current problems that I knew about and wanted to see whats up. Well I was following the bronco data instructions and I was too plug directly into a port on the bigger diagnostic port and then jumper from the bigger diagnostic port to the single diagnostic port (I don't have the names down by me right now). Well I hooked the wire accidently to the positive instead of ground. When I hopped into the truck to test it out (key turned to position right before the engine is started). The fuel pump came on and didn't turn off even with the keys out so I quickly disconnected the cable. Well the truck runs like a$$, I drive it and the fuel mixture must be off and it idles bad, and I can't accelerate over 35mph (i put the gas pedal down but it sounds like it stalls). Also wants I park it the engine will turn over but it will not start. I've tried resetting comp, but it still doesn't solve problem. Codes are:
118- ect sensor sig >4.6v
637- tot sensor >max v
126-map/bp sensor out fo self test range 1.4-1.6v
123- tp circuit >4.5v
113- act sensor >4.6v
337- EVP >4.8v
654- MLP sensor not in park position.
Did i manage to short out the computer when I had power to the diagnostic port instead of the ground? Do I have to replace the computer (upgrade to MAF) or will replacing the sensors solve the trick? Aren't there fuses that would blow instead of the computer or sensors? thanks.
disconnect battery, depress the brake peddle and let it sit for 15mins. then reconnect and start. let it get warm and go for a drive. that should clear the ecu. it is possible the ecu is fried but try this first. you wont need mass air if the ecu is bad just go on ebay or a wrecking yard to find one. or go here www.fordfuelinjection.com he may have one
Well, tried it out and same problem as before. It will rev as high as I want to take it when sitting in park or neutral, but it doesn't have "go" on load. The transmission shifts hard, and I hear a knock sound when I try to gas it. When I park it after driving it will not restart unless I disconnect the battery and let the computer reset. I guess its time to look for a new computer.
Hey kemical,
I found a 93 lighting ecu, I was looking up some specs on it and it wasn't mass air. If I put it in my bronco will it adjust to my tamed motor? I'm going to shoot fordinjection.com an email to see what he has available.
no it will not work. the lightning ecu is meant for 24lb injectors. you could use it if you were to upgrade the injectors. go to www.fordfuelinjection.com and read up on the differences on the ecu's just to make sure there isnt anything else im forgeting.
just so you know none of the lightnings were mass air that had the 351w in them. the 4.6ltr lightnings or genII were but thats a whole different ball game there.
