I have 87 renger 2.3L .It has a very high idle speed at times and will not drop down.An example is when you get off the freeway and stop at a light. At times it is normal and it goes weeks fine, then starts again. It appears to happen when the weather is colder but this is not for sure.Any help will be appreciated
I"ve had the same problem with mine for over a year. I live in Tacoma, WA, and would like to find a shop that can pinpoint the problem without nickle and diming me to death. I bought a scanner, and have so far replaced the egr valve and ECT sensor to no avail
Anyone out there know of a shop/individual in my area with proper equipment that can help me also at a reasonable cost? It's a 1987 2.3 EFI.
Thanks for any help.

I have code 14 in koeo continues memory and code 34 and 13 in engine running test.I have not had time to check the suggestions you have given but I will.Engine runs fin other than that. thanks
The 13 is the IAC, 34 is an EGR code and the 14 is erractic ignition. I wouldn't worry about the 14 until you fix the others and then I would clear all the codes and see if it comes back. I can email you the pinpoint tests for the 13 & 34 if you don't have them.
I appreciate the help. I have a mitchell book and it gives trouble shooting plan but it is involved.Any more advice you have will help. Two years ago I had the dreaded distrubtor module fail. I know those codes should clear themselves but I guess its possible it is still in there?
I have checked Iac and cleaned and it appears to be okay.I have two books with different info. Iac checks out with ohm meter. When i disconnect Iac with engine running it dies. One book says this is correct and one says the ECA is bad if the engine dies.Any info you have will be helpfull.I also have code 34 which is egr valve but the engine runs okay.I dont know if the egr valve is causing the Idle problem or the high idle is giving a false egr problem. thanks for the help.
