Engine cranking too fast?

My 1990 bronco II with a 2.9 and 5 speed all of a sudden seems to be cranking very fast when I go to start it. Now this is not really a problem that would really bother me, but in the last week it seems like the starter has a supercharger on it. Its either that, or I have never payed any attention to how it cranked before. But if it is cranking faster I sure would like to know what caused this and if something is wrong. It seems to run fine so I really have no ideas. Any one have any comments. Thanks.

Did you replace the battery or Alternator or both? The increased juice could have something to do with it. Did you take any high-draw devices (Stereo amp, A/C, lights) things like that off? I had a problem like that with a Chevy S-10 Blazer. I put a new battery and Alternator in and the starter sound like it was on steroids. If not, can you tell me where to get your supercharged starter :-) If its not hurting anything then...well...leave it till it breaks.

Engine cranking too fast?

Thats the thing. It just seemed to happen for no reason at all. I havn't touched anything on the truck in at least a few months, except the oil change and new washer pump motor. Other than that, erverything is still the same from when I bought it about a year ago. Except the CD player. I don't think I have a problem though. It does not seem to be having any kind of effect on anything.

The other thing I thought might have happened is that the starter has worked itself away and isn't engaging the motor properly. Is it making any grinding noises. Having someone to crank the motor while you look and listen underneath could be useful. Check for cracked nuts, bolts, starter housing. Things like that. Is it causing any problems or just cranking like mad?

It's just my opinion, but if there's no bad noises with it, i.e. grinding, buzzing, etc. I would just leave it be. Higher crank RPM's are just better for the engine anyway. Just keep regular tabs on starter prices just in case.
