I hae a question about the reliability of these trucks. My friend owns an '87 Bronco2 and has had very few problems. Any response and feedback would be helpful. I know to lookout for rust and the general stuff, but I'm not sure about specific things. Oh, I have my eye on an 89 5spd 4x4 model. It has low miles, and a good price. Maybe too good is my thought. Thats why I'm looking for specifics.
Thanks a lot.
Mike
please e-mail if you can. (I can check it at work)
Let's put it this way...we own 3 Broncho II's. One is an '85, on is an '86 Eddie Bauer, and the last is a '90. The '85 motor went out (it's our parts truck). The '86 has some problems like the back door is cracking, and some minor things. The '90 has a gas tank leak. Motors on the 2 newer ones, fine! We bought our '85 when it was still running for $350, the '86 for $2100, and the '90 for $2495. Hope this helps!! Angel
LAST EDITED ON 24-Sep-01 AT 07:33 PM (EST)[p]my uncle owned a 1986 BII auto and it had almost 600,000 miles on it when his wife ran it without oil down the freeway one day and seized the motor last year. so these things can run for a long time.
mine only has 170,000 (so it still has a few hundred thousand to go!)
We had an 87' Bronco II. One thing we had to stay on top of was the torsion bar bolts and connecting linkage. The bushings seemed to wear or loosen up after time. We made it an item that needed to be tended to during normal PM service.
The rear tailgate right where the spare tire rack locked into. It needed to be reinforced with a peice of sheetmetal because of cracking after time.
my 88 eddie bauer is up around 270000 miles and has never left me stranded. i bought it in 89 and have driven it ever since. i can't say there hasn't been any problems but she always got me home.
When you say that you haven't had problems, what do you mean. On an old S-10 of mine, one of the things that kept screwing up was the A/C fan speed relay. I could only use the highest speed when it was broken. It went 3 times in the 4 years I had the truck. I'm looking for things that are questionable.
