overfull oil

I just spent about 15 minutes checking my oil. The truck had sat for almost an hour since I drove it, I pulled the dipstick wiped it and checked the level, I did this several times and it always seemed way past the max line. I finally started replacing the dipstick to different heights, I used the bottom of the black handle as a guide, I got it to read at the min mark with about an inch from the bottom of the handle to the top of the tube, I then placed the bottom of the handle at the top of the tube and it read right at the max line. I inserted the dipstick fully and marked the tube and found it to be an inch, so looks like my oil level is an inch over full, guessing by what the manual says i'm at least 2 quarts over. I dont smell diesel on the stick so I'm guessing the dealership just added the 15 quarts and didnt check it properly.
Looks like I'll be changing my own oil from now on, I was getting tired of the 85.00 oil changes anyway. John

Right on John, I only had 1 oil change at stealer & my oil & filter was $105.00. And that was dino oil. When I got the bill I should have told him I didn't ask for a rebuild. Rick

go back to the dealer and let them check it out. if it is overfilled it is there responsability to drain the correct amount out. i believe that there is a TSB about overfilling the 6.0 PSD, someone here will have it. take that in if you feel like making them feel stupid.
