Rough Idle, New Flash

I am currently sitting at the Ford Dealership trying for the third time to get rid of my rough idle. Thanks to my wireless card my company gave me, I am able to sit here and work........and check out FTE. A week ago, they loaded the new flash (my truck is an 04 built in Oct of 03 so until then, I had the Oct flash) and so far, I havn't seen any negative affects. Milage seems to be the same, maybe a little better. Seems to drive down the road the same. As far as a louder idle, I can't really tell since it doesn't have a consistant idle all the time.

I orderd the predator from Motorhaven and am waiting for them to get this rough idle worked out. Will let everyone know my opinion on that as soon as I get it loaded.

Will also let everyone know what the fix was for my truck's rough idle.

I have actually been keeping up with the rough idle topics for the last few weeks. When the flash didn't fix it, I wasn't all that surprised....but that is what they wanted to do that day, I kinda wanted the new flash and they did think that it might actually fix the problem.....so I didn't think it was a completely wasted day. Today, I gave them two or three things that might be causing the issue. Was only able to do that becuase of the information I have read about here. FTE really is a helpful place......plus I don't feel alone when I am doing things a little out of the norm when it comes to my truck......like when I am waxing the bed or cleaning the inside face of the tires. I just think about the guys on here and some of the things I have read about people doing and know that there are people out there that are way more wrapped up with there trucks then I am. Thanks to this site I have also found a new way to start sentences...."According to the guys on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts web site......" I have also found that starting sentences with this phrase around my friends makes their eyes roll.

I hope somebody else jumps in here with more knowledge than I but, I thought the Oct '03 flash was for '03 engine builds.

You imply that your engine build date is Oct '03 which would indicate an '04 engine. I believe that the '04 engines hit the line on Sept. 29 '03.

Please confirm your engine build date.

If I am correct the Oct '03 flash would be useless with an '04 engine.

BTW: Even though my wife says "oh yeah,,,you are ALWAYS right"
I have been wrong more than once or twice in my life.

Good luck.

I know I have an 04 motor....went and checked that after I started reading on here back in February. I havn't followed all of the flashes to the T, so if my Oct 03 build would have started with the Sept 03 flash, then that is what I had.....and I believe that sounds correct now that I put some more thought into it. Bottom line, I was comparing my truck's original flash to this latest one.

She's doing fine. A little bit of collic after feeding but we have some drops that seem to help that.

I have updated photos on our family web site www.hunterfamily.name.

I meant to ask, is it one of the wireless cellular cards, or an 802.11 card. If 802.11 card, that's nice of the dealer to provide an access point for customers to use.

I use liquid glass on the truck. Currenty I only have a rubber matt in the bed so I can still see the paint and I know that paint is still under the matt. So every now and then, I pull the matt out (which I also clean) and wash and wax the bed as I do the rest of the truck....which every so often includes the door jambs. Eventually I will get a sprayed in liner. When I use to use plastic bed liners, besides waxing the bed, I would also clean the liner....which included a layer of Black magic so that it wouldn't look so dull.

You are right on that. There is one flash for the 04 motor. RC1 that came out in Feb 04. That was the last.

First thing I did when I got it home was to throw a big rock in the bed to get the first scratch in the paint and get that out of the way. A couple months later I took it down my buddies ranch and gave it mesquite "pinstriping". Sounded like fingernails running down a chalk board. Clean the inside of the tires? I only hose down the underside when I take my boat down to the coast for saltwater fishing.
