Took the rig out to the track last night to make some passes. Here are some observations.... (see sig for mods BTW, and track is a 1000' track, no 1/4 miles here in AR)
1. Launching in 2wd on 100HP setting causes nothing but tire spin to well past the 330' mark, and up past 4th gear.
2. Brake boosting is your friend.
3. 4wd lauches are like taking off on a rocket ship!
4. 100HP mode is more than enough power to beat all the local ricers.
My first run (4wd launch, 100HP mode, little brake boost), took me to a 2.1 60' with a 12.4 run. My next run (2wd launch, 100HP mode, lotsa brake boost), took me to a 3.4 60' with a 19.8 run. This is why you don't launch in 2wd, nothing but tire spin and lotsa rubber sprayed on to the truck. hehehe Third run of the night, best one BTW (4wd launch, 100HP mode, lotsa brake boost), took me to a 1.9 60' with an 11.7 run. :woot: Everyone couldn't believe it! It was really movin'!!
I must say that for less than $700 in mods this truck is just simply amazing! I lost every race that I ran, but I was only there for times and to have fun!
Yeah, I had thought about turning it off once I got out of the hole, but just concentrated more on keeping the truck in a straight line v. worrying about turning off the 4wd. I imagine it could have made for a few tenths' better times. I'll have to try it when I go to the track next.
You can flip it back to 2WD after the launch but it won't disengage due to the load on the drive train. It will flip back to 2WD after you let off the throttle and coast/brake down the pit lane turn in.
These trucks are relatively quick for their size, but once you've had a bit of practice, you'll find that you have time to do all sorts of things as you are waiting for the end of the track to come. You can flip back to 2WD, adjust your mirrors, do your taxes, etc.
Another suggestion that someone had was to switch to T/H mode after the launch to use the slightly higher shift points. The suggestion was not to launch in T/H mode though because of the lower stall speed of the TC in that mode.
well, I'm used to the old 0-60 time expression. So what does a '2.1 60' with a 12.4 run' mean? I'm guessing that's a 12.4 second quarter mile. Am I so naive as to think 0-60 or 0-100mph is a useful metric?

Thanks for the great post.
A 2.1 second 60 foot time coupled with a 12.4 second 1/4 mile ET would mean that the vehicle was slow to get off the line but made up for it on the top end.
My 60' times with the SCMT in high power mode were 1.924 s and 1.902 s respectively for the two runs that I did. The 1/4 mile ET and MPH for each run were 14.332 s at 93.270 MPH and 14.338 s at 93.01 MPH respectively.
In the first run you can see that my 60' time was slightly worse but that the 1/4 mile ET was slightly better as was the MPH - so I made up for the difference in speed in the end of the track.
To answer a posted question....My truck is a 4x4 Crew cab with the short bed. And yes, all times posted are 1000' and not a full 1/4 mile. Arkansas doesn't have any 1/4 mile tracks in the entire state. Kinda gay, but oh well. I'll have to try that T/H thing too. My last run of the night, when I ran that 11.9, I was in T/H from the launch. I'll try switching it on after the launch next time. Good idea!
That's still awesome times for a big a$$ truck, I'm very impressed, I what are you taking your tac up to at the line with your brake boost, I still keep getting alot of turbo lag, but I'm only going up to 1000 rpms. But my truck is stock as well though.
Holding the truck to somewhere around 2300 or so. I think. Full pressure on the brake pedal and foot on the gas right to the point where the truck wants to move...Then hold it.
I'd have to look to be sure, but I wanna say that it is in the ballpark.
I'll have to try that out, I can't wait to get a exhaust and what not, I hear about all this power potential these things have and it's driving me crazy!
