Rear-Axle Change

I want to change the rear axle in my '90 BII to a '67 Ford Positraction Rear-Axle. I am pretty positive I will have to change out the drive shaft due to it being the double-cardan type joint style. What I would like to know is if the change in gear ratio, hopefully to a lower one, will affect my engine in an adverse way. Anyhow, any suggestions and advice would be welcome. Thanks.

You didn't say what trans you had in it. The only MAJOR thing I can think of right off the top of my head, is your gear ratio front to back. If you use your 4x at all you must have the same gear ratio in the front as in the back. Find out if you can match the front gears with the rear if you want a lower ratio.

I only have a 2WD BII...unfortunately. But the tranny is a 4 speed w/ overdrive, made by either mazda or mitsubishi(I can't remember which).

I would try to find the gear ratio before doing this swap. What kind of 67 axle do you have? The ratio could be something like 3.00 which would be a dog in a B II. If the ratio is not a concern, check the pinion yoke and flange from the two axles, they may interchange, presto use the stock driveshaft. A note, most of the EDDie Bauer's had 4.10s and limited slip gears in them. They are 7.5 gears, but handle all of the 2.9s power.
Good Luck,
