88 BC 2 starting problem

I have a 88 BC 2 with 2.9 and 5spd. Here's my problem. Starts great when cold, ie..sits overnight. Starts fine if you allow it to warm up, cut it off and restart within a minute or two. But if you let it warm up, cut it off, then let it sit 30 minutes or so it's hard to restart. Engine will crank 3-5 seconds, run rough for 5-10 seconds, then runs fine. Also notice slight smell of fuel at same time as hard starting, Any ideas?? Otherwise truck runs great and only has problem in this one particular scenario.
