Whistling noise
Hi! been reading post for couple months but first time post.

I have 1997 f150 v6 4.2L auto tranny.

One of my problems i'm having is sometimes while taking off from stopping I
hear this whistling noise, not sure where from but it changes as tranny and
engine rpms rise, when tranny shifts into 2nd i don't hear it until I stop at a
light and take off again.

How many miles are on your truck?

A whistle noise could be a lot of things...like the AC, or tranny, or some kind of leak or something. Is it real loud?

It could also mean you have a turbo on that bad boy!! not to get off topic or anything..

Thinks for repling so quickly, my truck has 66,8xx mile on it.

p.s. sorry no turbo on it

NO have not solved problem (if its even a problem)

But ,would the air coming from the air box make a whistling kind of sound

Mine whistles from the air box on a regular basis. Could also be a vacuum leak.

my experience with ford auto tranny's are that as they age and get used they start making noises. the work truck tranny sounds more like a whining than a whistling. when's they last time you had the fluid changed?

How about the idler pulley, if the bearings were going bad could that make a whistling (sounds like a turbine) sound.

Also, does the serpitine belt turn at different speed as the RPMs of the truck rise and lower

Thinks for all the help

Narrowed it down to one of the two idler pulleys.

Is it farily easily to change a idler pulley?
