I have an 88 bII 4x4. I just rebuilt the motor and put it back in. Ive got the timing set right. It is idling rough ex: when i first crank it it runs ok for a few moments and then starts boggin down and sometimes cuts off. It will crack back fine but a few moments later it will do it again/ and sometimes it will idle high, then low then cut off. Ive cleaned the idle control valve and thats when it seemed to get worse.
Also it wont go into high gear. Ive gotten under it and found that a 3 prong plug is hanging down on the drivers side of the tranny and Ive looked and cant find where it goes. There is also an orange wire that was pinched between the block and the bellhousing on the passengers side when i pulled the motor. Could this have anything to do with the shifting? If anyone can help me with these problems I thank you in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that 3 prong plug goes into the transmisson. You should check the drivers side of the xmiss. The wire you pinched, if it has a electrical "eye" connector on it, its ground and should be bolted down under one of the eng/bell housing bolts. Did you do the engine timing with the SPOUT plug out? I would check the IDAC valve. I spay WD40 in the solenoid end and clean the valve up.
Ive cleaned the IACV and thats when it got worse. It seems like it starts idling rough when it has been running for a few minutes.
Ihave looked on the drivers side of the tranny and dont see where that plug would go.
I did set the timing with the spout connector out. Its just running real rough where it was running great at first. It will run fine for a few moments when you first crank it and then it will start to bogg down and sometimes cut off and then idle high and then down again.
