I just took my motor apart due to some problems I had. The truck already had this built up motor in it when I bought it. I took out the cam to see what brand and style and size it was but I could only find 196j on the end. Anyone have any idea what cam this is, or how I could find out. Thanks!
Sorry - no magic decoder ring for "196j". Not sure how far apart your motor is, but the only suggestion I can offer is to reinstall it, and using a degree wheel, dial indicator & piston stop figure out the cam's spec.s for yourself -- "degreeing" the cam. I won't claim to be an expert at this, not enough to explain it here anyhow. Comp cams has a pretty good online instruction guide for those not familiar:
