Question KOEO code 18

1988 f150 4x4. 302 aod. Last night it started fine. Put it in D and pulled onto the street and 150 ft down the road it just died. Like someone turned off the key. Cranks fine, I can here the fuel pump when key is turned on. KOEO test gives me 67, 10, then 32, and 18 continually. I only have a chilton manual and it has bubkis on IDM circuit or SPOUT circuit which is what the codes point to. I am assuming since I cannot get it to run it is continuous memory codes. 67 does not worry me, either does 32. It is 18 that I think is the issue, but how to track it down, what to do about it, so many damn wires?!!!!!!!! Where do I start?

Check for spark first off, and if you don't have spark, I'd have the TFI module tested. Also look at the pickup in the distributor - if it's not sending a signal, the coil will not fire, and the computer will not know where the engine is in its revolution. Either case will cause it not to run.

How do you test the TFI? It is a small part within the distributor, correct? I am more a novice mechanic so any help is welcome.

There are a few tests in a Haynes manual, and I think most auto parts stores are able to test them too. The TFI module is the gray plug on the side of the distributor. Do you know if you are getting spark? If you aren't getting spark at all, I would check the pickup inside the distributor first.

I am currently at work. I will check for spark 1st then look at the pickup inside the distributor. If all looks good, I will check the TFI module. As always, the knowledge inside this website are extremely valuable! Thank you!

Thanks again! I checked and no spark! Then open up distributor and everything looks ok. So I took it out and of course do not have the 5.5 mm socket to get the TFI modulator out. (Every time I think about its name I hear Marvin the Martian. Took it to Auto Zone and they checked it of course it failed. Replaced it all and it started right up! You nailed it on the head right off! Again, I have used this site only a few times with oddball questions and it pays off every time. Thanks for your help!
