I just tried to install the Predator in my 2000 excursion PSD and it won't save the stock tune. It goes thru 2 attempts then says that it may have a tune already installed in the truck. I just recently purchased this truck and the last owner told me that he had a Western Diesel chip installed but had removed it before I purchased it. I looked and sure enough there is no chip pluged in. I spoke with a gentleman at Diablo tech support and he didn't know what to do. Any ideas?
More info. When I spoke with the gentleman at Diablo he asked for the calibration ID. It's showing VNAB5Y2. Also, the VIN is just showing a series of ff.ff.ff.ff repeated to fill the screen. There is also some trouble codes showing up. P1000 OBD system reading and P0603 powertrain control. The only other thing I have noticed is that when the Predator is trying to save the stock tune, the theft light blinks rapidly then slows then blinks intermittently. Was hoping to get this installed for a long drive this weekend. Any help would be great. I can be reached at 404-964-3283 Dave

P1000 is simply no "readiness code". What that means is there have not been certain criteria met in the drive cycles of the vehicle. Read the repair manual for exact instructions but the jist of it goes like this: Start the engine, let it idle for 10 minutes, go drive it. Accelorate full throttle from 30-50 mph. Keep engine rpm above a certain value for a set amount of time. Come back to the shop. LEAVE THE ENGINE ON. Let idle for another set amount of time. Maybe some other stuff, I can't remember right now. Then the readiness code will be generated.
The readiness code is erased every time you access the ECM to check for error codes.
I don't know off the top of my head P0603
Got this from another. Not sure how accurate.
0603 PCED Powertrain Control Module KAM error No historical faults output during a KOEO test Open PCM pin, disconnected B+, faulty PCM

OOOh it's coming back to me now, I think it's simply a code generated when you disconnect the battery. No power to KAM (Keep Alive Memory)
My Predator is REAL SENSITIVE to power. If you do anything while it is trying to write it will fail. I have had to hook a charger to the truck in order to get it to load. An external power source would be the best. They have the info on the web site for the power supply and the tip polarities.
Went and picked up a power supply and hooked it up but no luck. The diablo web page says the current ver. is r19b but my programmer is showing 7r19c. Also, where is the model number of the programmer found? The only thing listed on mine is a small white sticker that just says 7.3.
Like some of the other people mentioned, Predator's are very sensitive to any power fluctuations when you are programming. Make sure everything is turned off inside.(radio, fan, interior light-double check it, this one got me the first time). Are you running any gauges? After I added my trans temp gauge, I have to disconnect it when I reprogram or it will fail.
You may try having Ford reflash the computer if nothing else works.

Your revision is newer so don't worry about that. The problem is with the PATS (passive anti-theft system) on your truck. Some of the 2000 Excursions have a this problem (Superchips had issues early with them too). Diablo should be able to give you a reset code to force it, if it can.

QUESTION: [I have a 2000 Ford Excursion 4wd 7.3 and I have not been able to download the stock tune. There is not a chip installed nor has there been a previous tune installed. CALID VNAB5Y2 Rev.7R19C. I have been told by Diablo tech Cole that revision 19cz has nothing to do with this issue. I now understand from other sources that Diablo has not been able to correct the conflict with the PATS on this vehicle. If this has now been solved, please advise your fix/procedure in specific detail.
We have tested the tools on 99-03 7.3 excursion with out any pats problems, in fact i have 2 friends with 2000 xcursion with the predetor tunes, maybe you can send us your PCM and the predator and see if we can troubleshoot on the bench, contact us at 561-908-0041 x202..
Thank you for your interest in DiabloSport!
Stay tuned,

I'm not really in a position where I can remove the PCM and disable the truck for a couple of weeks while they look while they try to solve this problem. At this point I hope that they will honor a refund!
