today in the junkyard i got a complete delay wiper system from an 86 f150. i heard on the forum that 2 wires need to be swapped inorder for the squirters to work. does anyone know wich wires? i would have gotten one from a 73-79, but im convinced that no trucks in my area were eqipped with that option! but the 80-86 fseries and broncos, almost all have them. any help will be great!
I just put one on my '79. The switch had 2 connectors going to it. The connector with just 2 wires in it, I had reversed those wires. Works great. You can slide a jewelers screwdriver or something similar into the conectors end to release the tab so you can pull the wire out.
ok i was going to put it in my truck, and i noticed that there are three possible choices of wires to swap. i found the 2 wires that control the squirters, but where do i swap the wires? at the trucks wiring harness? at the connecter that attaches to the trucks wiring harness? or at the connector that plugs into the switch? i dont want to screw it up, i spent a whole 5 bucks and an hour getting it out with nothing but a swiss army knife and a tire iron... (to break the dash apart)
I swapped mine right at the switch. If you look at the end of the connector, you will see a small slot that is below the opening where the terminal is. You can slip something small in there, I used a jewelers screwdriver, while pulling on the wire gently. This will slip the connectors out of the holder.
Never break stuff up in the salvage yard to get at a part! It may be you that needs that busted part next or it may be someone else. You are also destroying property that is not yours. How would you like it if you sold the steering wheel out of your truck and someone came by to get it and busted all the windows out and smashed the dash with a sledgehammer just to get it out.
ok thanks for the help. its a long story as to why i broke the dash apart, but i will say that normally i dont do anything like that. when i did do that i removed everything i could from the dash, the dash itself just would not come out, even though the bolts were removed...
