OK let me get this straight. A 2.0 head will fit on a 2.3 and visa versa??? I see that the only real difference between the two is the bore. So how is it that the 2.0 makes 80hp and the 85 2.3 (which I thought I had) makes hp in the 70's ???

i had a 88 ranger with a carberated 2.0,,,,the manual fuel pump went bad and before i found out it had spewed gas inside the motor on the #1 crankbearings and piston,,, scarring up cylinder wall, how i found out was started smoking and using oil like mad,, when i added oil i noticed the dipstick had a gas smell, so checking out everything found fuel pump bad, but motor was wasted too upon take down,,,i couldnt afford another motor from junk yards(450-600 dollars) so i came across a young boy stripping down his ranger to put in a 302 ,,, he let me have his 2.3 efi with comp and all wireing, upon getting the 2.0 and 2.3 side by side i noticed the heads and block looked the same, so instead of converting over to efi i put carb manifold on 2.3 fit just perfect,installed engine in truck, put a electric fuel pump in line,, crank it up and all i had to do was adjust carb for idle a litle bit, i used the 2.0 ignigtion 2.0 intake and exhaust manifolds,,, worked for me,,, i have to remmember though when getting spark plugs i have to tell them 2.3 intstead of 2.0,,, i found out later that the manual fuel pump on 2.0 had a habit of leaking into motor and you wouldnt know it till motor failed,,, hope some info here helped you
