Hey matt77f2504x4, whats your handle around vegas? I'm a local and I'm usually on quite a bit. RF 269 maguyver out of las vegas right here. Give me a shout on the disney channel sometime man
wow howdy, i didnt know that. good to know. what do you do for a living you sound pretty "in the know."
ingramo, Wavin' ! to be honest, ive been sandbaggin' for about a year now.(darned apartment living!) but these threads have renewed my interest. i just bought an rci 2950 on ebay and just yesterday i got a madison base.(always been my dream radio) right now im using an antron 99 on a five foot mast in the bed of the pickup. i live around jones and the 215 so im not sure i can reach you, but i'll try later tonite(how about around 11, its vegas; i work late!)
my handle is stratocaster, but i may change it seeing as how i cant remember who i "ticked" off using that handle! hope to hear you out there. BTW, you do mean ch.19 dont you?
Yea 19 would be the disney channel. I'm currently talking on a Galaxy 959 and a 102in steel whip with a little kicker when I need it. 11 might be a little late for me though unless its on the weekends. But I'll listen up for ya or put some fire in the wire and give YOU a shout.
there ya go ingramo! ive got to get myself a little "help". if you know of any for sale here locally let me know; you can pm me about that. i'll be out there more and more now, hope to hear you out there!
gas monkey, there are a LOT of variables involved in figuring the range of a cb.
power out, antenna height, atmospheric conditions to name a few. but in general, in a barefoot(4 watts) mobile, you will probably reach 5 to 10 miles, and can receive from about twice that far. on a base station antenna, you can get out up to about 50 miles. that being said, i have talked to people in australia, england, nova scotia, and russia. this has a lot more to do with sunspots though.
I've been wondering after reading some of these posts on C.B. Radio, has anyone given thought to expanding their communication horizons. by getting into Amateur Radio Communications. Don't get me wrong I still love C.B. Radios, but more can be done with Amateur Radio. Yes i'm an Amateur Radio Operator in the State of TX.
Matt its a black fiberglass one. It mounts on my mirror. I want to get a mag mount one like you were saying, but I'm gonna hold off on that for a bit$$$$$$$$$ . When I get back to my room today, I'll check it out. I'm in the library now "studying" for my history test!!!!
Never have given much thought to getting my FCC license, sounds like a fun idea though. my pal's father happens to be the fire chief in our town and he's a radio operator, ill probably ask him a few questions i know hes got alot of old equipment sitting in his attic too, im currently possessing his cb swr meter.
i got my ham ticket about 15 years ago; when you had to know morse code to get it. i enjoyed the distances that could be reached, but it was actually quite boring. most of the people i talked to would ask you the same three questions about your equipment and location and thats it. i found cb radio to be much more exciting, even with all the BS. also, amateur equipment, while superior, is pretty expensive. if i had a kenwood ts-940s i would still operate between 26 and 28 mhz. thats where the action is.
Well Matt, I also have my ticket.... and have had it for 20 plus years now...but have been into radio for 35 plus years.. I run now an old Kenwood 820s with a Remote VFO 820 VFO and a Yaesu Sp 980P External speaker with Phone Patch..and a Dentron Amp for the pile ups...
If you have any rigs you would like to get rid of ?? Let me know in an email..
Matt you do have a point there, in highschool i always had the most fun with a friend running around in the pickup at night ****ing off the truckers on "Childrens Band" radio
I wonder how I did? I purchased a Uniden PC78Elite, 4 Ft. Wilson Fiberglass antenna, spring, stake-hole mount with coax, and PA horn. Will this get me going?
taxabel, put that mount in the stake hole closest to the rear of the vehicle. sound like a good set-up; i like power mikes, but the biggest secret is to yell really loudly into the microphone!
Anyone have a set of crystal controlled cb walkie talkies? you know, the kind with three or five channels? try this, open up the back of it so you can get to the crystals. pick a channel that both walkie talkies have and switch the RX and TX crystals in each radio. now you have a channel that is .455 mhz lower than the channel you had before. NOTE!- this frequency is not within the cb band. transmit at your own risk.-end disclaimer.
