I had a noise while driving, it is like a bearing going out. You know a whaaa whaaa whaaa even at slow speed. Well I was out of state and went to a Ford dealer, they said it was the transfer case and pulled it all the way down to find nothing. This is when they lost my confidence, they said it was a front hub and they ordered one. OK they tested to find the noise in the center of the truck by jacking the rear off the ground and letting the rear tires spin so how in the hell could it be a front hub. So I crawled under the truck in their shop and could tell no doubt it was in the transmission. So they got their transmission specialist, you know the guy that ordered the front hub?, to look at it. Yes it is in the trans. Well no way was I going to let them work on it so I drove it home.
Now my question is has anyone had something like this? If so what did it turn out to be? I don’t want to have the whole trans torn down to change only 1 part because I figure while it is down it is worth the money to go through the whole thing. It now has just under 90K miles, but I do not really have the time. So if it is something that will wait great if not I need to find another truck for a while.
