I was told that Ford Motorcraft oil is Valvoline, I was also told that NAPA oil is Valvoline. Anyone have info to varify this. Is NAPA 15-40 a good dino oil? Thanks in advance for any info.

I have also heard the same. A Ford mechanic told me to use the Valvoline Premium Blue Diesel oil because it was the same as the Motorcraft oil only cheaper. I can get it at Pep Boys for about 6 dollars a gallon.

Ford Motorcraft oil is made by CONOCO. For all things oil related, I highly recommend everybody to check out the bobistheoilguy.com forums. It's a really a good forum to read and a great place to find fact from fiction.

Valvoline has three different formulations of diesel oil that are Valvoline branded and not one of them is re-packaged as Motorcraft. As I mentioned to the other poster, Motorcraft is bottled by Conoco. I would like to further add that an oil maker who bottles oil for a different brand doesn't always use the same formulations as their labled brands. Example, Ashland corporation is the owner of Valvoline and Valvoline oils are formulated a certain way that Valvoline likes. Now, let's say XYZ company says they wants Valvoline to formulate and package a XYZ store brand oil to sell cheap. Many times, in order to do this, they will have the Oil maker (Valvoline in this example) use cheaper additives and such and just barely meet specifications. Or in other cases, such as Cummins Engine company, they want a better oil than Valvoline's "All Fleet" oil and have their lubrication engineers work with Valvolines Lubrication Engineers to make a "Premium" motor oil. Basically, my point is that the formulation of any oil packaged in any Non-oil company bottle goes beyond who did the packaging, many times it doesn't come close to the same in formulation to the oil company branded product.
