Hello, I dont post much in this section (mostly in the offroad forum) but I have a few questions about an EB 9" that I have found (I have searched). It is on a '71 chassis with a 302 (I believe), Dana 20 and what looks to be a 30 up front (I see no ball joints).
So here is some info I have obtained from the 9:
it is about 59" WMS-WMS, the drum measures about 11.25" in diameter and I found the following numbers stamped near the pinion:
C5AW 4668A
The numbers you give from the tag don't seem to go anywhere in my cross reference list What I can tell you is that it is a big bearing housing, judging by 11" brakes.
Factory gearing with a V8 was 3.50 standard or 4.11 optional. I can't tell you whether it should have limited slip or not.
Pretty standard housing although not as desirable and stout as the 77 triangulated housing.
I have a list compiled of the common EB axle codes and #'s. And I double checked a few places on the internet.
BTW, I should have added that all Broncos originally came with 28 spline axles. But upgrading to 31 or 35 spline axles is common. Its a good idea to pull an axle and count the splines.
The 28 spline shafts neck down to the splines. The 31's stay the same diameter. The bearings are the same size. I believe this is true with the 35 spline shafts as well. The weakness in a 28 is where the diameter is reduced and at the smaller splines (from torque)
