and why can't i find them? ...
starting to drain down the cooling system to flush & refill with the cavitation prevention additive... where the heck are the drains for the blocks?
thanks guys...
The only place you can drain the block is a plug in the rear mount of the oil cooler drivers side, and you can pull the block heater on the passenger side. No pet*****.
the plug on the rear mount of the oil cooler -- is it an allen plug? am i warm? is the block heater supposed to be easy to get to? i followed the cord but it's seems hard to get to... sorry - i thought this was going to be easy... (it's an 85 6.9) thanks!
found the block heater - there above the starter...
i also was wondering if it's normal to drain so slowly - i've opened the radiator cap and drain and it's still draining after 15 minutes?
Sorry I did not get back to you, to much overtime at work. Mine had a pipe plug in it with a square head. As far as the block heater goes it is a pain to get at, and you will take a small bath in coolant when you remove it.
Yep, they take a long time to drain.
Close to 7 gallons to fill everything including the overflow tank.
thanks for the message dave. found the oil cooler drain with some tentative exploration. my block heater is held on by a single flat-head screw; i drained that side by backing off the screw until i got a stream but before the screw dropped out and i had to get it back in place - i wasn't sure i could get it back in easily....
thought it was going to be a fairly quick job, but with waiting for it to drain after flushing it a few times it took me into the afternoon...
The block heater is held in by a toggle bolt for an easy explination. If you unscrew it to far the bar on the inside drops off. Then the only way to reinstall it is to remove it completely, fish the bar out, reassemble and reinstall.
I should have told you that up front. I was tired though and not thinking to well. Sorry.
