I was just wondering if anyone likes the ponies...I like to handicap, but have to admit, I am not much of a gambler...I do pick them right once in a while. I have always like any kind of racing, including NasCar, and the track and field events of the Oylmpics. Just Curious....!
Peppy....Hasbro would be a great name for one of the bigger ponies for sure. thanks for the tip...Hasbro, yep, I like it.....! Hey you never know when one will hit the track named Hasbro....talk about premonitions....!
I never bet on them, but love to watch them run. Spent some time at the track in MN. A friend was the Racing Commissioner for several years, until this season. Like to work on race horses. I've picked 3 of the last 4 Derby winners. I should just bet, but I work too hard for my money to piddle it away ....
Splashtm...I agree with you...I love to watch them, and follow them rather closely on the net....However, I seldom bet them...They are fun to watch, and quite the atheletes...They were born to run, kinda like some of us....Let's keep our money in our pockets mostly, and just admire their abilities and stamina....!
I have never bet on horses, but there is a certain mystique to the sport of horse racing that I find most interesting. I went to the Kentucky Horse Park over the summer for the Secretariat Memorial unveiling and got to meet his owner, two of his riders and a trainer. It's hard to believe how much interest this horse draws even 3 decades after his triple crown victory and 15 years after his death. For anyone who likes horses and horse racing, the KHP shouldn't be missed. There are living legends right there for all to see
Here is John Henry http://home.comcast.net/~01gtb/John_3.jpg He was sold for as little as $1100 once and ended up winning about $6.5 million. He was horse of the year twice, once at age 9. He may not look like a thoroughbred champ at 29 years old, but he never really did.
Here is another pic of John http://home.comcast.net/~01gtb/John2.jpg I included this one even though it's a poor picture for one reason. John is known to be mean spirited if not down right aggresive. One of the main reasons he went through so many homes. I asked if they could bring him out for a stroll instead of just letting him out into the paddock. The handlers make sure everyone is well clear of him when he is out. On his way back he stopped cold right in front of me as to say "you are here to see me, so take the darn picture." He did this for no one else and ignored everyone that tried to visit him in his stall. I have a bunch of pictures of him that he happily let me take. Who says horses aren't smart?
I live 10 minutes from Saratoga....
Guess where I spend most of my free time in August.
Then, there's always the harness track right down the road. I do like going down and watching the wagon draggers run.
Just glad I got out of the habit of keeping money in my OTB Phone account. That was getting expensive. Now, if I use it once a year, it's a lot.
