Hello Everybody,
After my recent folly with my water pump, injectors and fan clutch I notice that the fan now sounds as if I'm in a wind tunnel . I don't know if this is normal or not, when I bought the van 6 yrs ago and after changing the fan and clutch 4 years ago it did not do that !!! I wonder if this is normal and it's supposed to sound that way on the aero or I did something wrong or the new fan clutch is defective ?.
You may have obtained the wrong fan clutch in terms of direction of rotation. Some are made to rotate clockwise and vice versa. Have the store recheck the part number or try a different store for confirmation. Here is a link if interested: http://www.carquest.com/techbulletin...20Rotation.pdf

The 3.0L rotates clockwise, hence the left-handed thread. The 4.0L rotates counter-clockwise, hence the right-handed thread. Assuming the fan clutch you bought is indeed for the Aerostar, if you can screw it on, you have got the right fan clutch, unless your water pump is also reversed

(In my best Homer-esque), Dupe! Good point cooper. What was I thinking? I must have been dizzy from going clockwise, no, counterclockwise, no, no...never mind.
Well, owning the Aerostar has certainly been an "Odyssey" of sorts but I was referring (lamely, it seems) to the cartoon character. Perhaps it is 'doh!' instead of 'dupe'.
I see you still have the required humor to own an Aerostar. I'm also a big fan of the "Simpsons" and "King of The Hill," as are my children. Alas, my wife thinks they have bad influence on the kids, so we are reduced to clandestine sessions of those shows when my wife is out shopping. And yes, we posted sentries at the door, not to mention booby traps too
I have two Aerostars at the moment, and I have been tempted to name them "the Menandez brothers" at times , especially around spark plug times.
I too love the Simpsons, mostly because there are no sacred cows and everyone gets skewered equally. The best part of watching with your kids is discussing all the insider references to our generation's books, movies, rock stars, etc they would otherwise miss. Then too, as the kids get older they will share with you the same things in reverse as you will no longer be "N' Sync" with the times.
The fan should howl at low speeds and in hotter temps untill it gets to a certain RPM and unlock, then the howling should stop. If its extreamly hot it may not stop hpwling.
