same here, diesel started up in price when gas started coming down. somthing needs to be done about it. last week I spent $1135.22 in diesel fuel, yes it was highway fuel. I'm sure yall on the other side of the field in CA are used to it but I've been having to paying $2.06- $2.13 for fuel in FL (vasoline not included).
Don't they have a law against price gouging in Fla ????
yes there is a law there, but there is a shortage of fuel because of the storms , I went through st agustine last night I could only get $100 worth @ 2.09 the mobil across the street was 2.19
Running about $2.00 in my area of Dallas. At the station I use the most, the guy said it was because of winter heating fuel going up, the old supply and demand..........
Years ago. off road diesel had more sulfer in it. I used to run it in my tractor. about 1996 they took the sulfer out, so it's the same as On road diesel now, Just red. The higher sulfer stuff is Green. You will know you have it when everyone around you is holding thier nose because of the spoiled egg smell. 1 gal of Red Diesel will turn 100 gal of normal diesel red. ie. it will take a very long time to get it out of your tank.
I am hoping to avoid paying as much of those someday after my warrenty expires. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on concerning running on waste vegetable oil. That is about as tax free and cost free as you can get.
when I get dyed diesel for my tractor they make me sign a form that I will not use it in on-road diesels and its a tax free fuel and they make a copy of my driver licence.

Only problem is it voids the warrenty.
OK, here's where I am forced to change my tune a bit. I don't like it when people cheat on road taxes, and running WVO is cheating on them just like running red diesel is cheating on them. (It's a tax to pay for your use of the road, not a sales tax, so you really do owe it even if you make your own fuel! Think about it a bit and you'll see the logic even if on the face of it that seems outrageous.) BUT (here's the tune change) as near as I can tell there simply isn't any mechanism for you to pay them if you run SVO! The taxing mechanisms are all geared towards the manufacturers, fuel storage depots, gas stations, etc. There simply is *no way* to go somewhere and say "gee, guys, I made my own fuel, but here are the taxes I owe on the gallons I used 'cause I didn't buy it at a retail place."
(I know, I know, stop laughing at the thought that anyone would do that...)
But even if you wanted to, you couldn't. There's a way to get a tax *refund* if you're forced to buy taxed fuel and end up using it for offroad purposes. But no way to go the other way. So as much as I hate tax cheats, if you run WVO you have my blessing to ignore the tax problem (as if you care what I think, heh.) If you want a rationalization, consider that you're essentially running your vehicle on garbage. You're taking something that gets thrown away, and using it to drop your foreign crude oil consumption to zero, not to mention helping the environment, etc. If that doesn't qualify you for a free pass on the road tax, I don't know what does.
In England, enough people were running WVO and homebrew biodiesel that the enforcement folks finally did sit up and take notice about this issue. (Yes, they were sniffing peoples' exhaust and yanking people who smelled like french fries...) But so far here, you are totally "off the grid" if you run WVO.
Just a quick note about bio-deisel. Check your state laws, a buddy of mine ran it in his rabbit, but was only allowed to make so much a month, not even enough to fill up one of these trucks. Not sure, but I believe he also had to pay road taxes.
Of course, your states laws may be totally different.
FTE folks,
I was talking on a construction site the other day to a guy who runs off road fuel in his truck. I know this is a little bit less than legal but I am wondering if there is a difference in the fuel itself. Is the OR fuel better or worse in quality than pump fuel? He said that it is better than the pump fuel.
Big
Hope he doesn't take it to the dealer of service department for a fuel filter change. Down here techs report the people to the sheriff if the filter is pink/red. I agree with them, why should they be able to drive on the roads and not pay for them. Guy got busted in June for it. I laughed, it cost him $12,000 because he couldn't come up with receipts or proof of purchase for the first 6 months of the year, so they averaged his mileage in accordance with the dealer records and charged him x amount per gallon they estimated he used that year. HAHAHA... Bet he won't do that again..
