I'm going to put stock steel wheels on my truck ('85 black F150 4X4) and wanted to paint them first. What is your guys (and gals) recommedation for color? Black, gray or ?? Then trim rings or ??.
I had an '85 with stock steel wheels and I painted them "Argent" silver used a stock Ford hub cap (Small one that covers the hub and then used deep stainless trim rings on the outer rim (All cost me about $90) and they looked pretty good and were easy to keep clean!
Thanks. This is definitely a plain-jane model. I also have a XLT Lariat parts truck and while it looks more comfortable I think I like the simple one better.
Anyone one have any pictures of these old trucks new?
Have you ever thought of putting those white spoke steel wheels on your truck? They're only about $30 a piece from Summit. I had them on my F-150 and they looked pretty good.
I did think about using those. I'll have to check my Summit when I get home (didn't realize they were in there).
Why did you stop using them? They're supposed to be pretty heavy, aren't they?
-not that it matters a lot, I guess.
I have them on my '79 4x4 and the paint isn't very good. I have had to repaint mine after about 3 years. otherwise, they have held up pretty good. mine were more that $30 - I got the 10" wide rims for about $50 + shipping. I have BFG A/T's 31.5" x 10 x 15" tires.
My friend gave me some Weld aluminum wheels with new BFG's, and then I sold the truck 2 years ago and bought an F-250, but I've been thinking of getting some white spokes for this thing. If you have a Summit book, look in the truck section. U.S Wheel has their 70 series wheels and they list for $25.88 for 15x7 and $27.88 for 15x8.
I got lucky because I grew up in Reno NV and Summit has a warehouse in Sparks, so I didn't have to pay for shipping, I could just go there.
The white spoke wheels are actually a little lighter than stock steelies, because of the spoke reliefs cut into them.
