I recently bought a F250 Superduty Fleet style truck that is a stripped down version of the truck. I would like to replace the rectangular halogen bulb with the aerodynamic style headlight. Does any one have any experience in doing this conversion? The surrounding lights (turn signal and parking lights) look to be the same as the aerodynamic light assembly. Thank you for any help.
I have a 2004 F250 XL with the halogen headlights, special ordered with the halogen headlights (the upgrade to aerodynamic headlights was free). Dare to be different. I think our trucks are meaner and tougher looking with the rectangulars. Sort of a throwback. Philip.
I changed the sealed beam lights out for the factory aerodynamic styles headlights on my XL model a few years ago. It was an easy swap that did not require changing the turn signals. The headlights do require different connectors, but the aero style connectors are already a part of the wiring harness going to the front of the truck, so you will find them when making the change. In addition to the headlight assembly, you'll have to order the retainer clips that hold the assembly in place.
Before eventually switching to the aero style lights (2002 and later style), I did try out switching the stock XL model sealed beam lights for 7 inch H4's. It was a simple switch and used the same connector as the sealed beams. The H4's definitely put a lot more light on the ground than the sealed beams, probably because of a better light pattern. I then switched to the aero style, mostly because I liked the look. When comparing the light output of the aero style and the H4's, I would say the H4's are a little bit better. More light is focused where I need it with a distinct cutoff pattern that won't blind oncoming drivers (especially if you upgrade wattage).
One of my aero style lenses on my 2001 F250 SC XL was cracked and was allowing moisture in. Ford dealer wanted $160 for one replacement lense. Found these on ebay for $169.99.
Installation was easy after I did a bit of research here on the procedure and they look great - much better than stock. Light output is about the same as stock.
